Hi friends!
Tomorrow I’m playing some music at Montgo Di Bongo in Jávea, from 18:00 to 21:30 and back again from 23:30 to 3:30. Pass by and say hi if you’re around 🥁🎵
This week’s 5 selections are:
Danilo Plessow (MCDE) B2B Lefto Early Bird B2B Diggin' Dave (Kiosk Radio, 2023)
#Jazz #Soul #Funk #Gospel #World Music #Disco
For nearly two hours, get ready for a soothing journey through soulful tunes on the Belgian radio, curated by the local legends Lefto Early Bird and Diggin' Dave, alongside Danilo Plessow (MCDE). Whether you're celebrating Easter or simply enjoying a peaceful day, let this delightful mix uplift your spirit with a burst of musical ecstasy!
Twisted Secrets (Zopelar Soulful Dream Mix) - PRA.DO (Subliminar Records, 2024)
#Dream House
This dance floor bomb mixed by Zopelar promises a fantastic and magical closure to your next set. Whether in a large venue, your local bar, your bedroom, or simply in your mind, the crowd is fully engaged as you easily blend this track from its very beginning. Suddenly, dreamy pads enter the mix while you accurately adjust the bass knobs and tweak the resulting tune's bassline. Everyone feels like they're floating, wondering where the after-party will be or simply relishing the idea of a peaceful sleep after a tough night out.
Jorge Benjor (Ao Vivo no Rio) - Jorge Ben Jor (Som Livre / WEA, 1991)
#MPB
In the early 1990s, Jorge underwent a significant style shift, incorporating electric elements and a pop feel into his music. Recorded over four days at Jazzmania in Rio de Janeiro in September 1990, this live album features all compositions written by Ben himself. Despite its live nature, the album boasts impeccable sound quality, with no trace of noise. Rearranged classics and fresh tracks highlight Ben's unmatched stage presence, showcasing his ability to effortlessly transition between songs while maintaining the crowd’s energy.
La Cuna - Ray Barretto (CTI Records, 1981)
#Latin Jazz #Jazz Fusion #New York Salsa
La Cuna stands out as a unique album in Ray Barretto's career, blending Caribbean rhythms with a jazz fusion flair, this time under Creed Taylor's slick production. Not a big fan of the term "Latin jazz," Barretto himself stated that this new stage of his career focuses less on the fusion of Latin music and jazz elements, and more on incorporating Afro-Caribbean instruments such as the conga. While he occasionally incorporates Latin themes, his approach to jazz remains entirely traditional, representing a perspective possibly unique in the musical world, not explored by many other artists.
Claremont Editions Vol 2 - Various (Claremont 56, 2020)
#Downtempo #AOR #Leftfield #Trip Hop #Deep House #Balearic
As described on their Bandcamp, "Claremont 56 is an independent record label dedicated to releasing beautiful music." That's precisely what this album is all about: beautifully crafted, warm, and emotionally resonant soundscapes. While every track is a hit, if I had to choose one that has touched me the most, it would be Leo Almunia’s “Brillo De Luna” – an exceptional tune where various acoustic guitars layer over one another, allowing you to feel the subtle squeak of his hand sliding through the strings. Some parts remind me a lot to Air’s Moon Safari. Exceptional!
That was all for this week. I hope you liked the selections :D
Stay groovy,
Dudier
