Hi friends!
After a wonderful week off—hopefully giving you a chance to catch up on older posts—we’re back, welcoming a good friend, DJ, music promoter and key player in the music landscape of my adoptive hometown.
This month’s Guest Selector is:
OG Juan
Madrid’s underground dance scene has many faces, but few are as dedicated to its evolution as OG Juan. A long-standing figure in the city’s club circuit, he’s been shaping the sonic landscape of Madrid for over a decade—first through Undermad, a series of parties and weekly club nights, then as a co-founder of community radio station Radio Relativa, and more recently through his own platform, promoter, and label: Tombolo (Instagram - Soundcloud - Bandcamp).

Enjoy his very O.G. (Original Gangsta’) picks for the week:
Mexican Invasion - Cali Life Style (Underworld 805 Records, 1996)
#Hip Hop #West Coast Rap
OG Juan: OG nostalgic west coast Hip hop from Santa Maria, California from 1998. Discovered them around the times I was finishing school. “Lost” has the all time classic Delegation, “Oh Honey” sample would be used years after by Madrid’s very own Chirie Vegas for his classic “Gamberros Ambroz”.
Can’t Fuck With Us - Eva Noxious (En El Mapa Records, 2020)
#Hip Hop #G-Funk #West Coast Rap
OG Juan: Eva never disappoints. Another great single with that beautiful 90’s aura. The queen of Arizona delivering the ultimate chola vibes over soothing cali beats, claiming that…. ”you can’t fuck wiz us….”
Here Comes The Triple C - Central Coast Clique (Underworld 805 Records, 1999)
#Hip Hop #G-Funk #West Coast Rap
OG Juan: Iconic Triple C chicano rap duo formed by DJ Dominator (lead producer in Cali Life Style) and cali rapper Rebel. Found a tape from them in Amoeba Records San Francisco when I lived there in 2016 (lovely times!). Love the banger “Do You Wanna Get High?” sampling The Jones Sisters’ legendary “Nights Over Egypt”.
Short Dog's In The House - Too $hort (Jive / RCA / Dangerous Music, 1990)
#Hip Hop #West Coast Rap
OG Juan: LA legend’s 6th studio album sounds just as fine as it can get. From the lyrics, the beats, the art cover everything is just fantastic. You might recognize “The Ghetto” where he samples Donny Hathaway, “Short But Funky” or Ice Cube’s featuring “Ain’t Nothing But A Word To Me”.
International Jazz Playaz - Jazz Playaz Quartet (SIC Records, 2019)
#Jazzy Hip-Hop #G-Funk
OG Juan: Superb phonk vibezzz. Nothing to add. Just another iconic release from Sic Records. South California swag. My fav track is “Alphabetical Alchemy (feat. Domsta)”.
That’s all for this week. I hope you enjoyed the selections.
Have a great weekend!
Stay groovy,
Dudier
