More Music Less Words #129
Guest Selections: Moomba
Hi friends!
Happy New Year đ
This month of January we welcome a selector whose relationship with music goes far beyond the booth. Between radios, recording sessions, and countless hours of listening, her work is about documenting sound and the people behind it đ§
This monthâs Guest Selector is:
Moomba
After two decades deep in the global groove, Moomba brings funk, soul, and jazz into every session she plays. She now curates and produces Cool Nice Sessions, a mobile project dedicated to capturing the authentic sounds and stories of selectors around the world. In under a year, the project has woven more than 30 sessions across 11 citiesâfrom the markets of Morocco to the bistros of Parisâconnecting local DJs, cultures, and deep-rooted sounds. Built on the road, it runs alongside her European DJ tours and intimate sets in hotels, listening bars, hi-fi bars, and restaurants. An inspiring trip to Japan a few years ago permanently reshaped her sonic vision. Today, her focus is pure curation, creation, and deep musical research.
Enjoy her curated picks for the month:
Procession - Bobby Hutcherson, Harold Land (Blue Note, 1971)
#Post Bop #Spiritual Jazz
Moomba: Procession, Bobby Hutchersonâs 1971 cut featuring Harold Land on tenor sax, is late-â60s spiritual jazz, right at the crossroads of hard bop and modal jazz. The track gives the album its name, with Hutchersonâs vibraphone and Landâs tenor in deep, elegant dialogue. Donât just put it on. Hit play, put your headphones on, close your eyes, and let it move through you. Required listening, strong opener. One of my 2025 finds at Sounds of the Universe, London.
Samba Blim - Tamba 4 (CTI Records, 1968)
#Bossa Nova
Moomba: Samba Blim by Tamba 4 captures the playful, free-spirited side of early â60s Brazilian bossa nova. Tamba 4, a key group from Rioâs Beco das Garrafas scene, were known for their virtuosity and relaxed, joyful approach to samba and jazz. âBlimâ is pure rhythmic onomatopoeia and collective fun. I love playing it on in the mornings, it sets the day straight from the very first beat.
Chocolate Elvis - Tosca (G-Stone Recordings, 1999)
#Downtempo
Moomba: Chocolate Elvis is a track by Tosca, the electronic duo formed by Richard Dorfmeister and Rupert Huber in Vienna in 1994 (previously involved in projects like Kruder & Dorfmeister). The track was released as a 12â and later included on their album Opera (1997), featuring smooth beats and carefully chosen samples. Fun fact: the title and part of the concept came from an informal recording Huber made of a street musician calling himself âChocolate Elvis,â which the duo built into the track using those field recordings. Itâs always a hit in my sessions.
The Vice Yard - Orgone (3 Palm Records, 2020)
#Soul #Funk
Moomba: The Vice Yard by Orgone is a modern funk instrumental with deep grooves, analog warmth, and cinematic tension, clearly inspired by â70s film soundtracks and paying homage to vintage funk. Orgone, based in Los Angeles and active since the mid 2000s, blends funk, soul, and jazz with a contemporary approach. âThe Vice Yard,â from their album Connection, perfectly showcases their analog, energetic sound, pure energy!
Hold The Line - Another Taste feat Arp Frique & The Perpetual Singers (Space Grapes, 2025)
#Disco
Moomba: Another Taste feat Arp Frique & The Perpetual Singers. Hold The Line by Another Taste, in collaboration with Arp Frique & The Perpetual Singers (a gospel-influenced choir featuring vocalists like Brandon Delagraentiss, son of a Houston preacher who leads The Gospel Experience choir in Amsterdam), are from Rotterdam, where I discovered it this summer while recording a Cool Nice Sessions set with Tee Groove. From the very first beat, I knew it would be my favorite track of the year. Blending gospel, disco, funk, and deep grooves, itâs made to dance to and enjoy, with so much more to explore from this band. Enjoy!!!
Thank you very much for inviting me to curate this selection of some of my favorite tracks, discovered and revisited throughout 2025.
Youâll be able to discover more music like this on my links at the beginning of the post.
Wishing you a 2026 full of music, groove, and great vibes.
Thatâs all for this week. I hope you enjoy the selections.
Have a great weekend!
Stay groovy,
Dudier
