Hi friends!
We're kicking off the year with our second edition of Guest Selections, featuring one of the top crate diggers and record dealers in the game.
As you already know, in this series, I'll be inviting different artists and music aficionados to share and review their top 5 selections for the week.
This month’s Guest Selector is:
Arnaldo Robles
Based between Portugal and Brazil, Robles is on a perpetual quest for the finest and deepest cuts waiting to be discovered. Boasting a collection of more than 7,000 records and with over 3,000 records for sale, he's the go-to supplier for vinyl enthusiasts worldwide. DJs from all corners frequently visit his apartment in Cascais, getting lost among piles and shelves of records.
When he's not hunting for grooves, you'll catch Arnaldo prepping the next release for Coco Discos, his record shop and also music label. Soon, he will release the compilation SDDS Praia - Uma Compilação Baleárica, which will include his last two selections by Fernando António dos Santos and Dom Américo.
Check out his different than the usual, rare and not-on-Spotify singles selection for this week:
มันแปลกดีนะ (Remix) - เรวัต พุทธินันทน์ (Not On Label, 19XX)
#Synth-Pop #Electro
Last year I was looking for sounds of Thailand, initially I focused on city pop but I ended up finding this track which is part of a compilation, that includes breaks, electro and synth pop.
Despiértate - Helena Cros (Mercury, 1984)
#Synth-Pop #Disco
My last year’s trip to Paris in September yielded good diggin’. One of the pearls found was this Spanish single that combines italo disco and synth-pop. Banger!
Nice - Omar (Peak Productions And Records, 19XX)
#Contemporary R&B #Boogie
Balearic, R&B and downtempo, a killer combination packed in this beauty! Found this on the amazing Lorem Ipsum channel, I think it was the music that I’ve listened most last year.
Vivo Na Selva - Fernando António dos Santos (Not On Label, 1984)
#Boogie #Synth-Pop
The official version of 'Vivo na Selva' was initially released in 1984 by the Da Vinci group. Around the same period, another version of the song was produced by Fernando António dos Santos. However, it had never been heard—until now. After years of silence, this alternative version, featuring abundant synthesizers and an even more cosmic aesthetic, finally reaches our ears.
Luminosidade - Dom Américo (Phonogram, 1990)
#MPB
Composed by Paulo Debétio (who, unfortunately, left us in June 2023 during the licensing of this album) and Paulo Rezende, which is part of the homonymous phonographic production, this song is a testament to their exceptional quality. Américo, with incredible melodic capacity, explodes in decibels, drawing inspiration from the performances of Tim Maia, one of his artistic influences. Despite this, Américo maintains a distinctive freshness in his style. My bro Gustavo Keno (Juntos Com Certeza) found this beauty in Salvador.
That was all for this week. I hope you liked the selections :D
Enjoy the weekend and tune in next Friday for more music!
Stay groovy,
Dudier
