Hi friends!
This week’s 5 selections are:
Praise The Sun - Polyswitch (Astrofever Records, 2022)
#Future Jazz #Downtempo #House #Ambient
Enter the spaceship of Mouhcine Zouitina, a Casablanca-based producer and pivotal figure in Morocco's electronic music scene. Drawing inspiration from various local genres and other international ones like jazz, hip hop, disco, and house, Polyswitch guides us through a cosmic journey filled with galactic synths, warm guitar riffs, and elegant house and downtempo beats. With the courage to self-release his music on his independent label, Astrofever Records, this album demands your full attention. Mastered by Downbeat Mastering and manufactured by Mother Tongue Records, it comes with a guarantee of quality.
All Season Gear - Ivan Ave (Mutual Intentions, 2023)
#Hip Hop
Between my favorite rappers of today is Ivan Ave. Hailing from Norway, Ivan is not only a great lyricist, but also produces and mixes his instrumentals, along with other musicians. The album's title reflects the different seasons he and his friends experienced over the last three years. His lyrics cleverly observe the ordinary in a thoughtful way, exploring everyday life with a focus on both pleasure and the beauty found in daily experiences.
You can read more words about each song in Wordplay Magazine’s review.
Beres Hammond - Beres Hammond (WKS Records, 1986)
#Reggae #Lovers Rock
I fell completely in love with this lovers rock record, a Jamaican edition, that my friend Tomeu gave me as a gift. The eponymous release of the famous singer from Annotto Bay contains a hefty dose of romance, cheerful melodies, and that Caribbean vibe of sea, beach, sand, and beer. The track that has me totally captivated since the first listen is "If Only I Knew." Despite its touching lyrics, the melody of the chorus delivers a glimmer of hope and good feelings.
An American Prayer - Jim Morrison & The Doors (Elektra, 1978)
#Classic Rock #Spoken Word #Psychedelic Rock #Experimental
One of my go-to albums from my teenage years, The Doors' last album was the third recorded after Jim's death. It primarily features Jim's voice reciting his poetry over the band's instrumentals. Critically polarizing, the album is not for everyone, as Jim's imaginative lyrics can suddenly twist into the most explicit darkness.
Tempo Prá Tudo - Fernando Oly (Self-Released, 1981)
#MPB #Folk
Fernando Oly's Tempo Prá Tudo (Time For Everything) is perfect for any occasion. Whether you want to fully immerse yourself in its experimental melodies or simply go for a walk under the Sunday sun, this album fits the bill. Originally a private press by the Minas Gerais singer and songwriter, it was reissued by Mad About Records last year for all to enjoy.
That was all for this week. I hope you liked the selections :D
Stay groovy,
Dudier
