Hi friends!
It’s the last Friday of the month, and we all know what that means at More Music, Less Words. We have a new session to enjoy!
Let me introduce you to Gee Contreras
Gee's taste and knowledge of Black music developed in Bogotá's hip-hop scene and have expanded over the last few years since her move to Madrid. A true connoisseur of rap, disco, and latin jazz, her eclectic taste includes various Caribbean and African rhythms, 90s beats, and 70s Latin NY sounds. Almost any genre can find its way into her collection.
This time, Gee takes control of the spaceship to guide us through a stunning selection of hip hop tracks, some of the songs that were sampled to make them and other jazz tracks; with a special focus on sounds from our beloved musical country, Brazil.
Jazzy Hip Hop and Some Sample Digs from Brazil - Gee Contreras

Miles Davis had a blast nodding along to a slower tempo this time. Setting the vibe with an optimistic track from her fellow countryman Felipe Gordon’s new album, Gee happily continues spinning some jazz and MPB. After Donald Byrd’s “Wind Parade,” it’s time for some old-school hip hop, just the way we like it, featuring Black Moon’s classic “Buck Em Down,” which samples that same Byrd’s tune. From there, Gee takes us on a coherent yet bizarre ride through the finest rap, MPB and jazz from some of our all-time heroes like Madlib, MF Doom, Q-Tip, Gilberto Gil, Lincoln Olivetti, and more. Buckle up and enjoy the ride!

By the way, Gee is hosting an amazing party in Madrid next Friday, May 31st, at Sala El Sol, called Sol Got Soul. If you happen to be in town, stop by, show some love for these real selectors and dance!
That was all for this week. I hope you liked the session :D
Stay groovy,
Dudier
