Hi friends!
Before taking a 3-week vacation (posting back on Friday, 30/08), I wanted to close this stage of More Music, Less Words introducing you a professional music enthusiast.
In June, I had the pleasure of attending his DJ set at Zero Beghe Festival in Firenze, and I must admit that trying to Shazam most of his tracklist was an impossible task.
Luckily, he is one of those DJs who truly loves sharing music. When he realized I was searching for a track ID, he didn’t hesitate to show me the cover. It was a tune by one of my favorite Italo house producers: E.V.O.E. And now, we would love to share it with you too (see pic below).
This month’s Guest Selector is:
Mario Marini
Mario Marini is a Nijmegen based record dealer and DJ. Since starting DJ’ing in early 2016, Marini has rapidly made name with his eclectic selections of breezy grooves, gems from unexpected places and good Boogie classics on his side.
With his ever-growing record collection and additional musical knowledge, Marijn founded Marini Records in 2019. Initially as online store, but since early Spring 2022 went fully analog and opened his record-store in collaboration with PAAK Vinyl Bar in Nijmegen.
Enjoy his totally off-the-radar selections for the week:
The World's Greatest Unknown - Cy Timmons (Erewhon Music, 1974)
#Folk
Mario: Beautiful US Loner Folk. A cornerstone in my collection, it has that special breezy balearic feel to it. Private press, no labelmanager who says what to do - music from the heart.
Stand out tune: B3 - Nowhere

The Offering - Darkhouse Family (First Word Records, 2017)
#Jazzdance #Downtempo #Neo Soul
Mario: I stumbled upon this album last year at a record fair in my hometown, it looked interesting and seemed to have the right ingredients. Wow, it has been on heavy rotation ever since, what a masterpiece!! The album perfectly blends jazz, strong breaks and hip hop, with that beautiful UK touch.
Stand out tune: A6 - ModajiSuite
Motion - Motion (Double D Records, 1981)
#Reggae #Dub #Fusion #Funk #Disco
Mario: From the notes on the album: "Motion is freedom of expression, Motion is a real variation on conventional rhythms, Motion is George Oban. George was bass player and founder member of ASWAD. But after two albums with them he wanted to explore new musical avenues, and left to pursue his own ideas with Motion. After a year of rehearsals and writing the end result is this debut album, the influences are obvious, Reggae, Rock, Jazz, Funk, Latin, and yet still managing to retain complete originality that owes nothing to anyone. George Oban's fusions with Motion work like magic."
Stand out tune: A2 - Rainbow
Full Album:
The Pavilion Of Dreams - Harold Budd Produced By Brian Eno (Obscure, 1978)
#Ambient
Mario: Kind of a classic that I overlooked for a long time. Sometimes I need to have the record to realise how good it is. This one takes your mind to places, perfect record to soundtrack your daydreams.
Stand out tune: A1 - Bismillahi 'Rrahmani 'Rrahim
Lovebeat - Yoshinori Sunahara (Bungalow, 2002)
#Downtempo #Electronic
Mario: Love this EP, been on heavy rotation lately. Sound engineering is so good. It’s always in my record bag, but hadn’t find the right moment to play it on a big system until recently, I managed to play B2 ‘Balance’ during my set at Wildeburg. Somehow it felt like the track changed the speed of motion.
Stand out tune: B2 - Balance
Dudier: I have added the links to the complete album on the usual streaming services for convenience, but Mario has selected this 3-track EP, which includes a different take on the song “Lovebeat”, plus “In And Out” and “Balance”.
That’s all for this week. I hope you liked the selections :D
Enjoy your summer and tune in on the last Friday of August for more music!
Stay groovy,
Dudier
