Hi friends!
This week’s 5 selections are:
What’s House? - Dudier (Kiosk Radio, 2024)
#Deep House #House
For my debut set at Kiosk Radio (Brussels), I picked some of the records that define what house music means to me. What's House? is my personal homage to the timeless grooves, soulful rhythms, and underground spirit that made me fall in love with this genre. Expect a journey through deep house, with a blend of classic tracks that I've been spinning recently. In a time when festival stages and mainstream sounds are moving toward the accessible, I want to honor the real essence of house—the kind that carries feeling and soul. As Ludovic Navarre said: "Real underground house music!”
Mais Uma Chance (Jack Tennis Remix) - Santa Cruz (Too Slow To Disco, 2018)
#Disco #Nu Disco #MPB
Following the success of Ed Motta’s iconic Too Slow To Disco Brasil compilation, the label dropped a stellar 12" featuring a marvelous Jack Tennis remix of “Mais Uma Chance” on the A-side. The remix extends the original, bringing in crisp disco drums and a smooth intro perfect for mixing. Jack Tennis maintains the song’s essence while adding a tasty break with subtle delay effects, giving it extra dancefloor appeal without losing its charm. A fantastic cut for any DJ or disco lover!
Encounter - Flora Purim (Milestone, 1977)
#Modal #Jazz Fusion #Latin Jazz
Another gem from my dad's collection, Encounter is a must-listen for fans of spiritual and modal jazz with a Brazilian twist. Flora Purim brings together a powerhouse lineup, featuring the best of Brazilian and US jazz: Airto Moreira, Ron Carter, Ndugu, George Duke, Joe Henderson, Alphonso Johnson, Hermeto Pascoal, McCoy Tyner, and Hugo Fattoruso. A vibrant fusion of talent and styles…
1999 Dub - Peter Chemist & Scientist (Heartbeat Records, 1984)
#Dub #Reggae
Featuring the iconic Sly & Robbie alongside Roots Radics, this album blends sparse, Channel One dancehall grooves with plenty of effects to create that signature, laid-back, hypnotic vibe of dub. It’s a spacey, dub lover’s dream come to life, perfect for those who appreciate the deeper, more abstract side of reggae production.
MoonDial - Pat Metheny (BMG / Metheny Group Productions, 2024)
#Contemporary Jazz #Folk Jazz
Pat Metheny returns with MoonDial, a beautifully crafted solo guitar album that embodies his eternal quest for the essence of music. Recorded on a custom-made nylon-string baritone guitar, this project shines with clarity and simplicity, free from unnecessary embellishments. Metheny’s jazz invites listeners to pause and immerse themselves in lush atmospheres, evoking the tranquility of nature; feels like being by the sea or in the countryside. He reflects on his musical journey, stating, “I feel it’s a great privilege to be a musician and live a life filled with musical aspirations.”
That was all for this week. I hope you liked the selections :D
Stay groovy,
Dudier
