Hi friends!
December kicks off with incredible selections from the head honcho of Glossy Mistakes.
I had the pleasure of meeting him four years ago while showing a friend some recent records I’d discovered. Proudly, I handed over a copy of Ce Ta Ou by Raphaël Toiné, and to my surprise, he mentioned he was friends with the person behind that repress! He even put me in touch with him, as I was already dreaming of starting my own label (and still dreaming about it). That moment sparked the beginning of a wonderful friendship.
This man has dedicated himself to unearthing old and new music gems, making them accessible to everyone in both vinyl and digital formats. He’s committed to stellar sound quality, fair pricing, and, above all, democratizing great, undiscovered music, fighting in a world ruled by algorithms and commercialism…
This month’s Guest Selector is:
Glossy Mario
Glossy Mario’s focus is on reissues and experimental sounds with an ear to the dance floor. The Madrid-based label has now over twenty releases on vinyl of a variety of artists across the globe, both contemporary and reissues. He digs deep to find what he’s looking for — thoughtful, vibrant, high-quality music that draws on the ancient and the hyper-modern, the intimate and the social, the 4th World and the open-minded discotheque.

Enjoy his curated picks for the week:
Spacy - Tatsurō Yamashita (RCA, 1977)
#City Pop
Glossy Mario: A cornerstone of the City Pop genre by the one and only Yamashita-san. It doesn't get better than this: the productions and the arrangements are probably some of the best of the golden era. I particularly like this one because it has a very nostalgic vibe to it. It's pure silk, if I had to choose just one album to bring with me to a deserted island it would be this one.
Swimming Not Skimming - Two Lone Swordsmen (Emissions Audio Output, 1996)
#IDM #Deep House #Techno #Electro #Ambient
Glossy Mario: 1996 album by iconic pioneer capitan Andrew Weatherall together with Keith Tenniswood. Pure inspiration here folks. You can find the finest glitch, deep house, hints of electro. All very hypnotic, all very Andrew.
Codona 3 - Codona (ECM Records, 1983)
#Avant-Garde Jazz #Free Jazz
Glossy Mario: Codona was a trio composed of the legends Don Cherry, Naná Vasconcelos and Colin Wallcott (does it get better than this?). They released three albums on ECM and all of them are great, but the third one is my personal favorite, sublime free jazz and avant-garde with the three talents on their zenit.
Approach to Anima - Maya Ongaku (Guruguru Brain, 2023)
#Ambient #Folk
Glossy Mario: One of my fav records of 2023. A new band from Japan, with hints of folk and ambient, it's perfect for a cozy Autumn Sunday at home. It has a warm and delicate feel I really love.
Atlantic Mavericks: A Decade of Experimental Music in Portugal (82-93) - VA (Glossy Mistakes, 2024)
#Experimental #Ambient #Balearic #Synth-pop #New Wave #New Age
Glossy Mario: A compilation from our label Glossy Mistakes with some of the most reveleaning and pioneering sounds from Portugal. Almost three years in the making, you can find some of the key figures of Portugal with a very intimate and special feel.
Dudier: You can buy this beauty sounding pristine, as every other Glossy Mistakes record, at their Bandcamp
That’s all for this week. I hope you liked the selections :D
Stay groovy,
Dudier
