Hi friends!
Today is all about trips through different musical worlds.
This week’s 5 selections are:
Astral Trip - Skygaze (Flumo Recordings, 2022)
#Deep House #Jazz #Broken Beat
This one is for the Deep House heads! Get into the spaceship of the Spanish Jaime Tellado aka Sygaze and prepare yourself for a galactic trip through interstellar dimensions. The album features ethereal melodies, dreamy atmospheres, and intricate soundscapes created with with lush layers of synths that paint a vivid picture of cosmic exploration. “Skygaze reconstructs the rhythms and synths into his own fresh and unique package to paint a
picture of spiritual wonder, richness and excitement.” Have a good trip.
AOR - Ed Motta (Dwitza Music, 2013)
#AOR #Jazz Funk #Soul
A must-listen for fans of smooth grooves and soulful melodies. Motta's rich baritone voice and impeccable musicianship shine through every composition. Marvelous singer, virtuoso as a compositor, maestro as a compilator (big up to Too Slow to Disco Brazil!), avid record collector (+30.000 records) and AOR lover. A really cool guy. Ed has been obssesed with Adult Oriented Music for years. So much that he decided pay a homage to the style with this release. You just have to attend to one of his Instagram Lives where he shares his deep knowledge about music with everyone. I may not understand much of what he's saying, but seeing him in action and feeling his passion for music is just amazing. Doooooondiiiiiii …
Karma - Pharoah Sanders (Impulse!, 1969)
#Spiritual Jazz #Avant-garde Jazz #Free Jazz #Dangerous Jazz
Sanders' virtuosic saxophone playing and improvisational skills are showcased in this mind-blowing trip into avant-garde jazz heaven. The lineup of musicians, including Leon Thomas on vocals, Julius Watkins on French horn, and Lonnie Liston Smith on piano, creates an otherworldly sound that invites deep meditation. When I first listened to the piece "The Creator Has a Masterplan" I immediately noticed that the bassline (Ron Carter) is a kind of sequel to Sanders' mentor John Coltrane's legendary album A Love Supreme. This album promises a mix of spiritual peace, but beware, there's also an element of danger along the way. Dangerous Jazz ahead! :D
Leave Babylon - Horace Ferguson (Ujama, 1987)
#Reggae #Dancehall
Ride through the bustling streets of Babylon with Horace Ferguson's soulful vocals and thought-provoking lyrics as your guide. His unmistakable fusion of traditional reggae with a modern twist creates a sound that is both timeless and relevant, resonating with audiences of all ages. Each track on "Leave Babylon" feels like a carefully crafted masterpiece, designed to inspire, uplift, and educate. From the powerful title track "Leave Babylon" to the infectious vibes of "Sensi Addict" and the introspective wisdom of "Great Stone," Ferguson's lyrics delve into issues of social injustice, oppression, and the healing power of nature. His music is not just about entertainment, but also serves as a medium for spreading messages of truth and consciousness. RASTAFARI !!
Drives To The Beach - Turn On The Sunlight (Tokonoma Records, 2021)
#Ambient #Electronic #Jazz
Time to chill. Please leave this one for Sunday afternoon or night (depending on when you’ll end your weekend). Published by the Spanish label Tokonoma Records, Drives to the Beach is a masterclass in blissful melodies, ambient textures, and dreamy atmospheres that transport you to a state of pure relaxation by the coast. Jesse Peterson and Carlos Niño lead the production and composition of this soothing landscape. Pablo Calogero's saxophones, flutes, and bass clarinet add rich texture, while Mia Doi Todd's vocals on "Horizon" add a sense of mystery to the record. And let's not forget the beautiful artwork! The serene beach scene with crashing waves and the orange of the sun in the horizon.
That was all for this week. I hope you enjoyed the selections :D
Tune in next week for more music!
Stay groovy,
Dudier
