Hi friends!
This week’s 5 selections are:
I Get So High - John Daly (Royal Oak, 2024)
#Deep House
One for the deep headz! There’s little deep house from 2024 that I’ve picked up, but I Get So High is one of them. Jazzy yet tough, elegant yet built for the dance floor. Featuring vocals by Barbara Vulso and a soulful sax performance by Jabin Ward. On the flip, Two Days gets a deep and raw rework from Alden Tyrell & Serge, the mastermind behind Clone Records.
Una Vida Llarga i Tranquila - Joan Bibiloni (Blau, 1984)
#Jazz Fusion #Jazz-funk
A Balearic gem that flies under the radar. Una Vida Llarga i Tranquila sees Joan Bibiloni blending jazz, folk, and a deeply Mediterranean soul with a funky and experimental touch. The guitarist, arranger, and composer from Mallorca weaves intricate guitar work, airy synths, and the breezy grooves of island life—warm, reflective, and timeless.
Double Fine Zone - Spacetime Continuum (Astralwerks, 1999)
#Acid Jazz #Drum n Bass #House #Future Jazz #Techno
Spacetime Continuum dives into ‘90s electronic with Double Fine Zone, blending ambient techno, downtempo, and early UK DnB. Fluid rhythms and crisp percussion lay the groundwork, while shimmering synths and light melodies create a futuristic vibe. Featuring saxophonist Brian Iddenden and Spacetime (Jonah Sharp) on drums, synths, and Rhodes, the album marked a clear change in his career towards a jazzier sound.
Plantation - Don Carlos And Gold (CSA Records, 1984)
#Roots Reggae #Dub
Plantation is a great mid-‘80s Don Carlos album that mixes roots and dub styles. The electronic dubby effects float over skankin’ pianos, heavy basslines, and Don’s signature voice, adding an experimental vibe without taking away from the reggae foundation. It’s a smooth combination of the familiar and the new, capturing the essence of the time. If you’re into dub, this one’s worth checking out.
Oferenda - Aleuda (Far Out, 2000)
#MPB #Free Jazz #Downtempo
Under the direction of the ever-inventive Hermeto Pascoal, Oferenda is a fearless blend of free jazz, samba, and regional rhythms paying tribute to Brazil’s Nordeste region. Aleuda’s wild vocals bring to mind Flora Purim’s ‘70s albums like Encounter, giving the album a special and vibrant raw energy. This Far Out Recordings reissue sweetens the deal with a bonus LP featuring three mind-bending remixes.
That was all for this week. I hope you liked the selections :D
Stay groovy,
Dudier
